Unconfirmed e-mail alleges without proof Murtha favoritism on behalf of MobilVox

Enrique Lenz must be a very civic-minded and bipartisan individual. In the last election cycle the CEO of the Reston-based defense contractor MobilVox, Inc. personally donated $7000 to the campaigns of three congressmen.

There was $4000 to John Murtha, the ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Defense.

There was $2000 to Jim Moran, who is also on the House Appropriations Committee Subcomittee on Defense.

There was also a $1000 contribution to conservative right-wing Republican Duke Cunningham. Guess what? Duke Cunningham is also on the House Appropriations Committee Subcomittee on Defense.

The bought-and-paid-for Jim Moran visited MobilVox HQ in Oct. 2003, after which the company issued this gushing press release about how Jim Moran "has always shown great leadership through tough times and is highly respected throughout the ranks of government."--GoodbyeJim, 1/31/05

Appropriations Defense Subcommittee Scandal
A friend sent me an email about MobilVox. I suspect that like most emails some statements in it may be incomplete or incorrect. For instance, it is hard to believe that MobilVox has programmers who only make $25K per year.

Here is a listing of uncorroborated assertions and subjective opinions found in the e-mail that my friend sent me. I am printing them to report that someone is making these statements. The Post to its great credit exposed Moran's Project M and Murtha's PAID last year. Perhaps someone will investigate MobilVox. Perhaps everything with MobilVox will turn out to be on the up and up.

Uncorroborated assertions from my friend's e-mail, some of which may turn out to be true and some untrue.

  • Mobilvox has at least two federal contracts. One of them is for an anti-IED project.
  • The anti-IED project costs $1.7 million.
  • It draws circles on maps.
  • Murtha spoke of it online in the Post-Gazette.
  • Another, newer project is for the Navy.
  • Mobilvox has an Indiana PA office.
  • Mobilvox has programmers making $25K per year. A lead programmer makes more.
  • Mobivox is located in Murtha's District. It had planned to move its PA office but called off the move after it found out the new quarters were a couple of blocks ouside of Murtha's District.

Statements of subjective opinion, which may be either valid or invalid.

  • MobilVox resembles a chop shop.
  • Moilvox only has four employees who are really developers. It has others who are testers, analysts, designers, etc.
  • Murtha helped Mobilvox get two federal contracts.
  • The Indiana PA office doesn't get much of the money. It is overcrowded.
  • Programmers receive low salaries. MobilVox CEO Enrique Lenz keeps a significant proportion of revenues.
  • MobilVox's new product will not be useful to the military.
